17 commendations delivered to the provincial carabinieri command in Palermo

Palermo, consegnati 17 encomi al comando provinciale dei carabinieri

This morning, Saturday, June 8th, at the Giacinto Carini barracks, headquarters of the provincial command of Palermo, a ceremony was held to award 17 commendations to as many soldiers from the Palermo San Lorenzo and Monreale companies who have distinguished themselves in the performance of their duties. The recognitions, granted by the commander of the Sicily Legion, Major General Giuseppe Spina, were presented by the provincial commander, Brigadier General Luciano Magrini, who expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the soldiers who, with sacrifice, dedication, and high skills, carried out complex and articulated investigations.

The rewards relate to the investigative activity carried out within the operation conventionally called “Pandora” and developed by the soldiers of the operational unit of the Palermo San Lorenzo company between July 2019 and January 2020, under the direction of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Palermo, which involved several neighborhoods of the capital, focusing in particular on the drug dealing square identified in San Giovanni Apostolo. The investigation allowed to reconstruct and dismantle the operational dynamics of three criminal groups engaged in drug trafficking with the execution of 31 restrictive measures and the seizure of 14 kilos of drugs and 38 thousand euros from the illicit drug trafficking activity.

In the second operation, on May 31, 2023, the personnel of the operational section of the Monreale company arrested a fugitive, a relative of a Cosa Nostra boss, who had been missing for several months, as he was subject to a prison order issued by the Court of Termini Imerese.

During the ceremony, General Magrini highlighted how today’s awardees represent only a portion of the Carabinieri of all ranks who, every day, dedicate themselves with diversified skills to their institutional duties, expressing his warm thanks to all those who, in their daily actions, contribute to helping and protecting the community, defining the Carabinieri’s work as a service to others to be carried out always with humanity, passion, professionalism, and altruism.
