14 people hospitalized in Trapani due to spoiled tuna alert

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. These are the symptoms experienced by 14 people who ended up in the emergency room of the Sant’Antonio Abate hospital in Trapani after eating spoiled tuna. The fourteen cases of food poisoning have raised alarm in the city. The tuna was purchased at a fish market in the city. After eating it and experiencing the initial symptoms, they were forced to seek medical attention at the emergency room.

Two of them were hospitalized, fortunately their conditions are not a cause for concern. As a precaution, the doctors decided to keep them under observation. The other 12 received initial medical assistance and were immediately discharged. Meanwhile, the Nas carabinieri have already started investigating the fishing supply chain to remove the contaminated tuna from the market to protect public health.

It’s the usual story. With the arrival of the summer season, the risks of food poisoning increase, especially when consuming fish products of dubious origin or poorly preserved. Speaking of tuna: the first sign that should alert us is the color of the flesh. Then, we should check their firmness: if they are soft, it means the fish is not fresh. The advice for everyone is to buy the product from trusted retailers.
