Work begins on expanding the dock in Sottomonastero, Lipari

The expansion of the dock at the Sottomonastero port in Lipari has begun. An area for mooring boats and selling fish will be created, along with a launching and hauling area. The project was initiated by the previous municipal administration led by Mayor Marco Giorgiòanni and continued by the current administration under Mayor Riccardo Gullo.

Five years ago, the regional department of agriculture, rural development, and Mediterranean fisheries approved funding from the European Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Fund. The total funding amount is 1,307,296.00 euros, with contributions from the EU, the national government, and the regional government. Architect Salvatore Dieli is in charge of the project and construction, with architect Gabriele Fiumara coordinating safety and Carmelo Meduri overseeing as the project official.

The construction contract was awarded to Castrovinci Costruzioni Srl of Brolo, in collaboration with Bel Mar by Mauro Bellino. The total contract amount is 869,044 euros, including safety costs. The project is scheduled for completion by late September 2024, with hopes of extending the dock for faster ferry access and to protect the Marina Liunga area from future weather events. This plan was approved by Mayor Gullo’s administration and the Regional government.
