Five people have been arrested by the police in Catania as part of an investigation into a robbery that took place on June 6, 2022 in the parking lot of San Marco hospital against an employee of the company responsible for collecting money from the automated cashiers for parking fees. The arrested individuals include a 43-year-old, a 53-year-old, two 59-year-olds, and a 66-year-old. They are facing charges including aggravated robbery, thefts in homes and cars, and drug trafficking to a detainee in the piazza Lanza prison.

The investigation, based on police investigations coordinated by the Prosecutor’s Office, demonstrates the involvement of the suspects in various predatory criminal activities. Specifically, police investigations have identified the roles of the five arrested individuals in the robbery at San Marco hospital, where three of the suspects, one of them armed with a gun, arrived on two scooters and successfully stole 2,165 euros.

Further investigation revealed that the 53-year-old was caught throwing drugs (marijuana and hashish) and cell phones into the piazza Lanza prison for a detainee. On September 6, 2022, the police arrested the 43-year-old for possessing two pistols and two submachine guns along with ammunition in his possession.

Following the Prosecutor’s request, the magistrate ordered the detention of all the suspects, who were arrested and taken to piazza Lanza prison.
