Salvatore Emanuele Faraone, a 22-year-old from Partinico, has been sentenced to 7 years and 8 months for attempted murder by the court of Palermo. He is accused of running over two police officers in February of last year in order to evade a roadblock. One officer suffered a fracture, and the other various injuries. They miraculously survived the impact. The sentence took into account the expedited trial, resulting in a one-third reduction in the penalty. In addition to attempted murder, Faraone was also charged with assault and resisting a public official. The two officers have been granted provisional compensation for their physical injuries. Faraone claims sole responsibility for his reckless actions, although two others were in the car with him, who maintain they were unaware of his intentions and tried to dissuade him from stopping.
