15-year-old high school student in Palermo ingests mix of drugs, attempts suicide, saved by police officers
A 15-year-old girl attending high school in Palermo was rescued this afternoon in the central Castelnuovo square by police officers and 118 emergency personnel after attempting suicide by ingesting psychotropic drugs. The student, feeling unwell, collapsed on the street. It was the officers of the XI mobile unit on duty in the city center who realized that there was something strange in the young girl’s behavior.
They opened her bag and found several blister packs of medication tablets. The suicide attempt took place in front of dozens of witnesses. The officers were able to trace back to the school and, through the school office, identify the student. The parents were contacted. In the meantime, while waiting for the arrival of the 118 ambulance, the girl vomited the mixture of drugs she had ingested. The 118 emergency personnel stabilized her and took her to the hospital.
According to initial reports, the young girl may have been a victim of stalking. Just yesterday, also in Palermo, another high school student jumped from the second floor of her home. One of the hypotheses for the gesture is bullying experienced at school.
