1,200 kg of contraband cigarettes seized in Palermo; woman arrested.

The financial police of the provincial command of Palermo arrested 32-year-old unemployed Giovanna Quartararo accused of cigarette smuggling. They seized 1,200 kilograms of foreign processed tobacco found in a van in a parking area in via Giuseppe Li Bassi, at the Santa Rosalia Village. During checks, a patrol from the economic-financial police unit of Palermo noticed the woman unloading the tobacco boxes from the van. As soon as she saw the military, she tried to escape. With the help of the dog Arca, inspections began. Inside the vehicle, they found 6,000 packs of contraband cigarettes with the “Chesterfield” brand. The retail sale would have yielded 200,000 euros. The Palermo gip validated the arrest.
