Volcano activity prompts gas emissions fear: one house evacuated

In Vulcano, concerns have arisen again about the leakage of gas, and Mayor Riccardo Gullo has issued an order for a family that could be at risk and therefore must leave their home. The building is located in the Baracca area. The gas levels, which had initially decreased after the first alarm, have now risen again, albeit slightly. The INGV volcanologists’ multiparametric observation network has confirmed significant variations in the monitored parameters in the La Fossa volcanic system, with an increase in magmatic fluids. As the woman’s home is in a high-risk area due to the presence of a mofeta (volcanic activity), it was deemed premature to lift the ban on the building. The Gullo administration has ensured the family’s continued rental of an apartment for another six months, covering the costs with funds allocated to the Municipality.
