Van hits group of cyclists on Gela-Scoglitti road: one dead, two injured

Tragic road accident on the Gela-Scoglitti provincial road: a heavy vehicle hit a group of cyclists, one of whom died. The collision occurred just before the Dirillo Bridge, in the territory of Ragusa: the impact was extremely violent.

According to initial reports, two other cyclists were injured, one of whom was taken to the hospital with a red code. When the alarm was raised, emergency medical services and law enforcement arrived on the scene and closed off the road to allow rescuers to safely intervene.

The cyclists involved in the accident were from Mazzarrone, in the province of Catania. Investigations are underway to reconstruct the dynamics of the collision. There are long queues on the road, with heavy traffic delays as vehicles are removed from the carriageway.

The road in that area is also affected by another accident, a head-on collision involving a truck and two cars along the SS 115 Sud Occidentale Sicula. A section of the road has been closed in both directions in Gela, from km 280.200 to km 282.000. There was one injured person in the accident. Traffic is currently being diverted onto alternative routes: SP 194 – for vehicles coming from Gela towards Vittoria; SP 90 – for vehicles coming from Vittoria towards Gela. Anas teams, firefighters, and law enforcement are on the scene to clarify the situation, manage traffic safely, and restore regular traffic flow as quickly as possible.
