Fabio Ruvolo, president of the social cooperative Etnos in Caltanissetta, was taking a walk in Terrasini when his dog was attacked by a pitbull and left injured. The incident occurred yesterday, Sunday, June 2, as Ruvolo was walking on via Andrea Doria, a street leading to the waterfront of the town a few kilometers from Palermo.
Ruvolo recounted the dramatic episode on Facebook: “I want to publicly denounce a serious case of violence. I was walking with my family and our shih tzu on a leash, heading towards the Museum of Aumale, when suddenly a pitbull emerged from a private home in the area and attacked our small dog. The scene was of indescribable violence: the pitbull, enraged, grabbed our shih tzu by the neck.”
Nearby residents tried to intervene: “The immediate intervention of the residents was crucial. Everyone rushed to try to remove the aggressive dog. The owner of the pitbull also arrived at the scene and, after moments of terror, managed with great effort to detach his dog’s teeth from our shih tzu’s neck. Law enforcement, promptly alerted, arrived and noted the deep wounds on our dog’s head and the psychological trauma suffered by the children present at the scene of the violence.”
Ruvolo then addressed the mayor of Terrasini: “It will not be easy to process the trauma experienced by those present, especially the children. However, I hope that this public denunciation will prompt Mayor Giosuè Maniaci and the competent authorities to take measures to resolve this situation of imminent danger. I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the neighborhood residents who, with great humanity, worked to ensure the safety of my family. These residents also reported that other such serious incidents have been previously reported but their voices seem unheard. Luna’s physical wounds, our dog, will heal, but who can heal the trauma that our children have experienced? I trust in a decisive intervention by the competent authorities to ensure the safety of all citizens, who live in a perpetual state of terror.”
