Rosario D’Agostino wins Giro della Sicilia, Michela Bergozza first among women

The Madonita cyclist Rosario D’Agostino (pictured) wins the sixth edition of the Giro della Sicilia with time trial stages, with a total time of 1:40:59. D’Agostino, in his second participation in the Giro, climbs to the top of the podium after finishing second in the 2023 edition.

Wearing the jersey of “Madonie Bike” from Collesano, the cyclist also confirms his reputation as a climber on the Nebrodi mountains, already achieved last year at Piano Battaglia with the victory of the first edition of the “Gran Fondo Rifugio Marini”. In second place, with a gap of only 15 seconds, is specialist Salvatore Busacca, already winner of three editions of the Giro della Sicilia. An international podium thanks to the third position achieved by the Swedish cyclist Lorenz Wirth, who finishes his race with a time of 1:50:57.

First among the women, and seventh overall, is Michela Bergozza. A special mention for the cyclist from Vicenza who will participate in the upcoming World Road Cycling Championship, scheduled for September in Zurich. Six days and a total distance of 500 kilometers covered by the 100 cyclists who decided to combine tourism with competition. “A sea of mountains” to repeat the slogan chosen for this edition of the Giro, challenging also from a competitive point of view, with over 42 km of actual race, divided into six time trials and with gradients that exceeded 2,000 meters.

“90% of the participants come from outside Sicily, the most important data,” says organizer Guido Grasso. “We have showcased beautiful places by passing through 26 villages in the Messina hinterland. Enchanting places like Montalbano Elicona, San Marco D’Alunzio, Floresta, Piraino.” “We all had fun but winning is even better for me,” says D’Agostino. “The format is beautiful, we have fun and get to know each other among cyclists from all over the world.”
