Ismett is on track to complete all surgical interventions on young patients. The interventions fall within the collaboration agreement signed between the Sicilian Region, the regional health department, Civico, and the Mediterranean Institute aimed at reducing the waiting lists at Di Cristina Hospital. The protocol, signed on March 29 in the presence of the President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, involved Ismett taking charge of pediatric patients on the waiting list at Di Cristina Hospital in Palermo for abdominal surgical interventions.
The last two interventions, at the request of the patients’ families, will be carried out in the coming days by the surgical team led by Dr. Davide Cintorino, head of the pediatric surgery unit at Irccs Ismett, thus completing the waiting list.
“This is good healthcare, of which we have numerous examples in Sicily, and which we must always strive to emulate,” said President Renato Schifani. “Being able to have surgical interventions carried out on all young patients in need, even faster than expected, thanks to a synergy between the public and excellent private sector, fills me with great joy. My government will continue to work to solve the waiting list problem and ensure that all citizens have timely access to care.”
The agreement aimed to conclude the program by June 30, but the collaboration between the hospitals and the department allowed for all interventions to be completed before the deadline. “We did everything we could to offer interventions to all children in need as quickly as possible,” emphasized Davide Cintorino. “The operated children are all doing well and have been discharged. It was a great experience, a team effort involving our pediatrics department and focusing on collaboration between facilities, with the common goal of providing the best possible care to young patients.”
