New support teachers, job security no longer guaranteed: flash mob in Palermo

Explain briefly the following article:

“In the drawer, we had the dream of a permanent contract, instead we will have to ask for yet another certification”. These are the special education teachers who are attending the Tfa year, who this morning improvised a flash mob in Viale delle Scienze, the seat of the University of Palermo. More than 50 aspiring teachers occupied the external stairs of building 19, displaying signs with letters spelling out the message “a single commitment: teachers united for the support”. A common slogan, relaunched by special education students from all the TfAs in Italy, from Piacenza to Rome, where a large demonstration took place.

The legislative mechanism that guaranteed them entry into the support roles will no longer be applied from the upcoming school year. And so those who are currently spending time, effort, and money on a one-year specialization, will end up with an additional teaching certification, but without any certainty of securing a permanent position. With the abolition of Article 59, in fact, those who specialize this year move to the first tier, but there is no longer automatic entry into the role as there was in the past three years. “Moreover, to be admitted to this year of training, there are written and oral exams to pass – explain the protesters – it is certainly not a walk in the park”.
