On the morning of September 14, 1983, near his home in Locogrande, Trapani, retired magistrate Alberto Giacomelli was brutally assassinated in a mafia-style ambush. Giacomelli, a knowledgeable and dedicated magistrate, paid with his life for his commitment to combating criminal activities and upholding the primacy of the law. Thirty-five years after the heinous attack, President Sergio Mattarella expressed his condolences and solidarity to Giacomelli’s family and those who knew and respected him, emphasizing the importance of preserving his memory as a reminder of the need for a committed civic conscience in upholding constitutional principles.
