The illicit disposal of piles of waste, including hazardous waste, deposited and set on fire in a grazing land for sheep: the police, as part of a nationwide operation aimed at combating illegal waste disposal, arrested a 24-year-old man from Trapani, with a criminal record. Despite being assigned to social services, the man allegedly collaborated with five other suspects in environmental crimes. Next to the sheepfold, a space enclosed by metal sheets was used for dumping waste by several individuals, including owners of local companies such as a butcher shop and a funeral agency.
The man will have to return to prison to serve a seven-year sentence, issued following numerous convictions for various offenses, from theft to personal injuries. In the same investigation conducted by the Trapani Public Prosecutor’s Office, on May 13th, police officers arrested another individual in the act, a 39-year-old man from Trapani, with a criminal record, caught setting fire to a pile of waste: he was the one who had control of the land used as an illegal waste disposal site and was also the owner of the flock.
