According to the Carabinieri, personal grudges may be behind the murder that took place yesterday afternoon in Furci Siculo, in the province of Messina. The victim, Giuseppe Catania, was a 63-year-old retired former police officer known by everyone in the town. The perpetrator, Gaetano Nucifora, 57, who allegedly shot him in the head with a hunting rifle multiple times on the crowded promenade, was a friend of Catania’s. Nucifora turned himself in to the Carabinieri station in Roccalumera yesterday evening. Both men shared a passion for hunting and their families were close. The investigation is focused on the relationships between the families. The crime scene was examined by the on-duty deputy prosecutor, Roberta La Speme, and the Carabinieri investigation is being coordinated by Deputy Prosecutor Vito Di Giorgio.
