Former FI deputy Ferrigno sentenced to 10 years for mafia-linked political exchange

The Palermo Court sentenced former Forza Italia deputy Salvatore Ferrigno to ten years in prison for mafia-related political vote buying. According to the accusation, the politician, who was a candidate in the 2022 Sicilian Regional Assembly elections, allegedly accepted the promise of mafia boss Giuseppe Lo Duca from Carini to secure votes in exchange for money and the commitment to satisfy the interests of the clans. The agreement was allegedly facilitated by Piera Lo Iacono. Ferrigno, who previously served as a national parliamentarian for Forza Italia in the Foreign constituency in 2006, was running in the regional elections with the political party of Raffaele Lombardo in 2022. Both Lo Duca and Lo Iacono were also sentenced to ten years in prison each. The investigation, led by the Dda directed by Maurizio De Lucia, includes a video showing the alleged money exchange involving Ferrigno.
