19-year-old dies in Messina: had proudly shown friends the gun he was holding

The death of Michele Lanfranchi, a 19-year-old young man found dead in Messina with a gun in his right hand and a shell next to his lifeless body, is a mystery. The body was found in a pool of blood on the sidewalk in via Michelangelo Rizzo, in the Giostra district, a peripheral area of the city known for criminal activity related to drug trafficking and extortion. Police and ambulance services were called to the scene by friends of the young man who had spent the evening with him. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the jugular.

Investigations are ongoing, led by the substitute prosecutor Liliana Todaro and the mobile squad of Messina. Possible scenarios include accidental death from a misfired bullet while the gun was in the young man’s possession, or a murder possibly linked to criminal activities. Suicide appears unlikely.

Lanfranchi, who had a criminal record for drug dealing and property crimes, was reportedly showing off the gun to his friends earlier in the evening. All attendees have been questioned and tested for gunshot residue. Autopsy, fingerprint analysis, and ballistics tests on the weapon will be crucial in determining the cause of death. The young man was found dead in a friend’s home near via Michelangelo Rizzo.

Described as eccentric, Lanfranchi would have turned 20 in July. Friends express disbelief and sorrow over his death, recalling his friendly and jocular personality. The loss is deeply felt, with one friend lamenting the void left behind and another reminiscing about his joyful spirit.
