A new Nature Classroom has been inaugurated at the Emanuela Loi primary school in Bagheria, Sicily. Spanning over 100 square meters, the outdoor classroom, donated by WWF and Procter & Gamble, will allow around a thousand students to learn about flowers, fruits, and animals, observe the changing seasons, and experience biodiversity. This initiative is part of WWF’s project to promote environmental and social sustainability across Italy, with the goal of establishing over 50 Nature Classrooms in schools by 2024. So far, 39 classrooms have been donated, benefitting over 14,500 children. According to Riccardo Calvi, director of Communication at Procter & Gamble Italy, this initiative aims to engage students in environmental education and biodiversity conservation. Martina Alemanno, head of Education at WWF Italy, highlighted the benefits of outdoor learning in improving attention and reducing the effects of nature deficit disorder. Both organizations believe in the importance of reconnecting young students with nature by revitalizing school spaces.
