Wheelchair-bound Pedara abuses ex-wife: disabled man ends up in jail
Explain in brief the following article:
Despite being under house arrest, disabled and in a wheelchair, a 53-year-old man allegedly continued to harass his 58-year-old ex-partner from whom he had been banned from approaching after the woman had reported him for abuse in 2022. He allegedly threatened her and then sent her to the hospital with various injuries and two broken ribs. For this reason, the Prosecutor’s Office requested and obtained from the judge of the Court of Catania the issuance of a precautionary custody measure in prison, which was carried out by the carabinieri of the Pedara station.
The man, who must serve a remaining sentence of over fifteen years in prison for crimes against individuals, property, and public order, was also subject to the measure of removal from the family home with a prohibition on approaching the woman. Despite this, he allegedly continued to harass the woman by sending threatening messages: “I will come to kill you… it will not end well for you, I will set you on fire; I am the one who gives life when I want and takes it when I want… I will burn you alive with gasoline, this is the death you deserve”.
At the peak of an argument, the woman, reached in her home by the man, who moved through the city streets in his own electric vehicle, was violently beaten, suffering a cranial and facial trauma with facial edema, a thoracic and abdominal trauma, two broken ribs. The victim was judged to be recoverable in 21 days. This behavior has led to the aggravation of the precautionary needs against the 53-year-old, who has been incarcerated in the special section of the Messina penitentiary.
