Water emergency, Latest generation against the trapezoidal dock fountain: “This water belongs to the people of Palermo”

‘This water is not ours, this water belongs to the people of Palermo’ is the slogan of the latest protest that took place at the ‘dancing’ fountain in Palermo, on the trapezoidal pier. Some young activists, belonging to the ‘Ultima Generazione’ movement, caught the attention of passersby by peacefully protesting against the Amap emergency plan for the water crisis starting on Friday, April 5th. They equipped themselves with sponges, plates, and cloths to wash inside the fountain while chanting protest phrases: ‘We are in a drought emergency and we use a fountain as entertainment for tourists,’ one of them said.

The young people wanted to emphasize the importance of protecting water resources and the need for a sustainable approach to water management. During their action, the young people symbolically washed clothes to highlight the connection between water and the daily life of people. The protest was interrupted by police officers who forcibly removed the activists.
