There was a fire in the Misericordia area in Valderice this afternoon. The flames spread near the church, and due to strong winds, a helicopter and Canadair were used to help extinguish the fire by making several water drops in the difficult terrain. The fire also spread to the Misericordia zone and the Urban Park area. The mayor expressed concern for the inhabitants who saw the flames approaching their homes and thanked the various agencies, including the Fire Department and Forest Service, for their teamwork. Fortunately, the damage was limited, and the Misericordia Urban Park was saved. The mayor hopes that the authorities can investigate and identify those responsible for these acts that damage the history and identity of the area. There was also another fire on Monte Sparagio, above Baglio Messina, last night. About thirty hectares of Mediterranean vegetation were consumed, and the cause is still being determined.
