Union and journalists’ guild solidarity with photojournalist attacked in Palermo

The Sicilian Association of the Press, the Provincial Section Assostampa Palermo, and the Sicilian Journalists Group express solidarity with fellow photojournalist Igor Petyx, who was attacked while reporting on the fires that devastated the city of Palermo. Petyx was physically assaulted and forced out of a burned car depot by individuals who wanted to prevent him from taking photos. They even tried to take away his camera. Such incidents should never happen and pose a concerning risk to the freedom of the press and the safety of colleagues. The Order of Journalists in Sicily also expresses support for Petyx and condemns the attack as an assault on journalism and the right to report.
