Uil Trapani mourns deadly workplace incident in Alcamo: “Safety must be everyone’s priority”

Another tragedy in Alcamo, another death at work. This time it is the construction worker Jamel Zenzemi. “We are deeply saddened, so we can only express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the worker. But as with every fatal accident at the workplace, we must reflect on the causes of what is now a widespread phenomenon in Italy,” say the general secretaries of Uil Trapani Tommaso Macaddino and the general secretary Feneal Uil Trapani Giuseppe Tumbarello.

“For several years now – they explain – Uil has been fighting at a national level to prevent more work-related deaths, so that those who are responsible for protecting workers understand that it is not just an individual problem, but an issue that concerns everyone. For this reason, Uil has several times met with government representatives for a dialogue, together with employers, so that workplace safety becomes the country’s priority: no life should be sacrificed for profit.”

“In conclusion – Macaddino and Tumbarello add – we reaffirm the main proposals of this union so that there are no more work-related victims: more inspectors, more inspections, no more cascading contracts, uniformity of rules on contracts between public and private sectors, establishment of a special Prosecutor and manslaughter for violation of workplace safety regulations.”
