Uil in Palermo remembers Mico Geraci: ‘Underground economy still an emergency’

In Italy, there are still very high numbers of undeclared economy, more than 100 billion a year. Today, in Palermo, the Uil general secretary Pierpaolo Bombardieri remembered Mico Geraci, a unionist who lost his life defending legality. Bombardieri emphasized the need for a cultural change to tackle widespread illegality, challenging the government to act more decisively. He criticized the lack of funding for inspections and control of black market labor in the budget, calling for more resources to combat evasion and improve workplace safety. The event was attended by union representatives, regional officials, and the son of Mico Geraci, who was killed by the mafia in 1998.
