Two individuals reported for illegally extracting pumice from a quarry in Lipari
#Messina
Carabinieri coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, led by Giuseppe Verzera, have carried out a precautionary seizure of an area of approximately 8,300 square meters in the Vallone Bianco area. The two suspects are believed to be responsible for causing an environmental disaster through unauthorized mining activities of pumice material. The urgent measure was necessary to prevent imminent collapses that could have caused irreparable damage to public safety. The investigation, conducted since 2019, revealed that the two men were operating an illegal extraction of pumice stone, refining and selling it to construction sites in the Aeolian Archipelago and other companies in the Messina province. The suspects have also been charged with violating environmental and urban planning regulations. The investigation is ongoing.
