Two activities suspended in Messina province: workers were employed off the books.

In the province of Messina, labor inspectors suspended two businesses, one for undeclared work and the other for undeclared work and failure to carry out a risk assessment document. The first inspection involved a mechanical workshop for car repairs that had never been inspected before. Three out of the 9 employees were found to be working “off the books” without proper legal protection and insurance.

The second business inspected was a bakery, where a worker had been working for a month as a sales assistant without a contract. The bakery owner also failed to conduct a risk assessment and document it. Both businesses were suspended for irregular employment practices, and the bakery’s activity was also suspended for lacking the risk assessment document.

The administrative fines imposed amounted to 2,500 euros for regularizing the employees without contracts and another 2,500 euros for ensuring safe working conditions, along with a maximum fine of 1950 euros per each undeclared worker.
