Trapani woman kills partner in argument, sentence reduced to 14 years

In the night between 30 and 31 October 2021, Vanda Grignani killed her partner in Trapani. In the first instance trial at the Trapani Assize Court, she was sentenced to 21 years in prison. However, the Palermo Court of Appeal reduced the sentence to 14 years. The victim of the attack was 45-year-old Cristian Favara, who had a history of drug offenses. Favara was on house arrest, with permission to work at his mother’s restaurant until 11 pm. On the night of the murder, which took place in the couple’s apartment in via Avellone behind the San Lorenzo Cathedral in the historic center, Cristian Favara was 15 minutes late returning home. This delay sparked a violent argument that led to the tragedy. Vanda Grignani stabbed her partner twice. Immediately after the crime, she was arrested by the carabinieri and is currently detained at Pagliarelli prison in Palermo. “My life had become impossible,” Grignani explained to investigators. The relationship between the victim and the woman was very complicated, involving domestic violence and drug addiction. Cristian Favara had been increasingly violent towards Vanda Grignani, who had contacted law enforcement for help several times. In the appeal trial, Vanda Grignani was represented by lawyer Agatino Scaringi.
