The results of a research conducted by the Urbanit-Center Studies for Urban Policies association, to which 16 prestigious Italian universities adhere, have recently been published, which assigns to Trapani the national primacy per inhabitant in the ability to intercept Pnrr funding.
Against a national average of € 685.00 in per capita funding, the Trapani administration managed to obtain funding of € 2,874.00, which means over 150 million euros (ie 4 times more than the national average) and much more than many other capitals of southern Italy.

“This research expresses the ability to be able to implement projects in line with the guidelines for development traced by the European Union and the National Government, aimed at guaranteeing the eco-sustainability of the territories, with great attention to urban regeneration paths , also having the purpose of combating social exclusion – declares the Mayor of Trapani Giacomo Tranchida -.
This result satisfies us but does not make us satisfied: we will continue to participate in the announcements that will be published, so that we can continue – with the insights that have led to this extraordinary result up to now – to design the Trapani of the future, which together with the neighboring territories wants to represent a safe haven for young people, businesses, male and female workers who intend to root their lives in our territory.
For this result I have to thank all my council but in particular those who led the Department of Public Works, that is the current consultant Avv.
Dario Safina, the councilor for economic development Andreana Patti and the expert arch.
Gianni Mauro, who – together with the Public Works and Urban Planning services – have been able to propose project applications of great social and cultural value, so that they can always be awarded the various resources deployed by the Government.
With these projects – concludes the Mayor – we will have more modern schools, we will intervene on the housing emergency, we will complete the walls of Tramontana, we will regenerate the Cappuccinelli district, we will redo the water network of most of the city, we will renovate entire historic buildings such as Palazzo Lucatelli and the former Court of Via Roma.
Ultimately, between now and 2026, we will make Trapani more beautiful, civilized and livable “.

The senator of the 5 Stars Vincenzo Maurizio Santangelo is also happy.
“I can only welcome what emerges from the dossier drawn up by the Urbanit association and the University of Bari according to which Trapani would be the first provincial capital in Italy for funds from the PNRR per inhabitant: exactly 2,874 euros of investments for each Trapani area”.

“To allocate a large part of the resources to the South was an objective that we had clear from the beginning, when the Conte government approved the PNRR at the beginning of 2021.
The territorial rebalancing and development of the South, in fact, were one of the three transversal priorities of the PNRR which affected all six missions of the Plan.

We have always been aware that this would have been a historic opportunity for the South which will now have to exploit the arrival of these resources to get closer to the central-northern regions.
The existence of a significant economic, social and infrastructural gap itself represents a brake on development, leading to less investment and a constant drain of brains and resources.

We cannot afford to waste even a single euro.
This is why it is essential that local and regional administrations be ready for this great challenge “concludes Santangelo.
