The Pnrr (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) will give new life to one of the beloved places of the people of Trapani: La Colombaia. This was confirmed by Cristina Ciminnisi, regional deputy of the M5S (Five Star Movement) and vice-president of the European Union Commission of the Regional Assembly. In a commission meeting, the director general of the Cultural Heritage Department of the Region provided this information. Ciminnisi explains that the executive project is ready with an estimated cost of 27 million euros. The Superintendence for Cultural Heritage of Trapani will be the implementing body. The goal is to complete the restoration by 2026. The financial plan for the intervention was updated by architect Roberto Monticciolo, who is in charge of the project. La Colombaia, a historic building with a height of 32 meters, is located on an islet at the eastern end of the port of Trapani. According to historical sources, it was built around 260 BC by Amilcare Barca during the first Punic War. The aim is to seize this opportunity for the territory and the community of Trapani.
