Torture and Abuse in a Libyan Camp: Nigerian Arrested in Agrigento
#Agrigento
A 25-year-old Nigerian man has been arrested by the police in Agrigento for his alleged involvement in a transnational criminal organization of migrants operating in the central Mediterranean route. The organization is responsible for activities such as murder, torture, human trafficking, sexual violence, kidnapping for extortion purposes, and facilitating illegal immigration. The investigation was initiated based on statements made by migrants who arrived in Lampedusa between April and May, as well as police investigations that revealed severe mistreatment and inhumane living conditions in a Libyan detention camp. The suspect has been remanded in custody.
