Theft in Palermo church sacristy, Gaetano closes church: “The State doesn’t protect us”

A young man entered the sacristy of the church of Sant’Antonino in Palermo, taking advantage of a moment when the friars were busy with mass and the volunteers were planning the day’s activities. He quietly opened a volunteer’s bag and took her wallet and cellphone. The incident was captured by the church’s surveillance camera, installed after several thefts in the parish. The parish priest, Brother Gaetano Morreale, expressed frustration at the lack of security and protection from the state, leading them to consider closing the church. The victim filed a report with the police.
