Theft at Palermo Law Faculty: Thieves escape with computers and projector
Theft at the Faculty of Law in Palermo. Thieves broke into action in Via dell’Università, in the historic center, and stole a computer, a projector, and stationery material from the lecture hall. The staff made the bitter discovery this morning (April 4) and alerted the carabinieri. The military, upon arrival, confirmed the theft and began an investigation to locate the culprits. Security camera footage is being examined.
This is just the latest theft in the capital city targeting the university. In February, an attempted major theft resulted in charges against a 36-year-old man who was about to escape with technological equipment worth around sixty thousand euros. The university premises on Viale delle Scienze were targeted, but the man did not anticipate a security guard and a faculty porter, an expert in martial arts, who immobilized him and contacted the police.
The 36-year-old was then charged with attempting to steal the equipment, used for both scientific research and bathymetric surveys at sea. Additionally, a 60-year-old was charged with receiving stolen goods.
Just a few days earlier, another theft occurred in a storage facility on Viale delle Scienze, at the Historical Museum of Engines and Mechanisms. After forcing a door, the thieves entered and stole various laboratory equipment, including a heavy bench saw that was bolted down. They then reportedly fled in a van.
