The story of Livatino “The judge of Canicattì”, on the day of his beatification

The judge Rosario Livatino, killed on 21 September 1990, at the age of 38, near Canicattì by Stidda, a Sicilian mafia organization, will be proclaimed blessed tomorrow, in the cathedral of Agrigento. To celebrate this occasion, Rai Movie (digital terrestrial channel 24) will broadcast the film «The kid judge“. Freely based on the book The Kid Judge by Nando Dalla Chiesa, the film tells the story of the young Sicilian magistrate Rosario Livatino, active in the Agrigento area, where he is engaged in the fight against the mafia, between political connivance and silence. Carrying out his tireless and uncompromising duty, he soon ends up in the crosshairs of the bosses. Directed by Alessandro Di Robilant, with Giulio Scarpati (David di Donatello in 1994 as best actor), Sabrina Ferilli, Leopoldo Trieste, Regina Bianchi and Paolo De Vita.

A portrait of Judge Livatino is offered by the documentary «The judge of Canicattì», Broadcast at 3 pm on Rai Storia. The documentary features images of the magistrate and exclusive interviews, such as the one with the President of the Puglia Region Michele Emiliano who was a colleague of Livatino and which testifies to a passage that sees him involved in an anecdote Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino in the premises of the Municipality of Canicattì a few hours before the funeral rite of Livatino was celebrated. An episode that re-emerges thanks to photographic documents, such as those of Tony Gentile, and films with archive images of Rai Teche. Among the interventions also those of Pietro Grasso, Stefano Dambruoso, Salvatore Cardinale, Luigi Ciotti, Ida Abate and others such as Don Giuseppe Livatino, postulator of the cause of beatification; the lawyer Giovanni Tesè and professor Giuseppe Palilla, schoolmates from Livatino.
