The Return of Giuseppe Siviglia in San Giuseppe Jato

Giuseppe Siviglia has been elected as the new mayor of San Giuseppe Jato. The municipality in Palermo voted two years after its dissolution due to mafia infiltrations, which occurred on July 9, 2021, following a proposal by the then Minister of Interior Luciana Lamorgese. Siviglia’s affiliated list is “Honesty, Legality, and Development, Actions not Words.” Siviglia previously served as mayor from 2002 to 2012. In 2017, he was defeated by Rosario Agostaro, who resigned in 2020 when inspectors were sent by the prefecture. Siviglia won 53% of the votes. Angelo Rappa, with the “Connected to the Future” list, received about 8% of the votes. Maurizio Liborio Costanza, with the “United for Change” list, obtained 40%. According to Marcello Caruso, regional coordinator of Forza Italia, Siviglia’s victory highlights the party’s deep roots in Sicilian communities, particularly in the province of Palermo.
