The Palermo-Catania motorway closes for works: here’s where, when and alternative routes

Closed the A19 motorway to allow the execution of some urgent jobs. These are overnight and temporary stops scheduled for next week.

In order to allow work to be carried out on the technological systems along the carriageway towards Catania of the A19 motorway, in fact, night-time closures will take place between 10pm and 6am the following morning. On nights between Monday 9 and Wednesday 11 January, the motorway will be closed between the Villabate and Bagheria junctions. On nights between Wednesday 11 and Friday 13, however, the motorway will be closed between the junctions of Altavilla Milicia and Trabia. In both cases, the alternative itinerary is the state road 113 “Settentrionale Sicula”.

On the motorway front, it should be noted that on the A20, with regard to the closure of the Telegrafo tunnel, in the province of Messina, the Villafranca exit is now open to cars in the opposite direction, ie entering. From Villafranca, at the crossroads with the state road 113, you can take the exit link uphill which is currently “empty”, given the closure of the motorway section between Giostra and Villafranca. Once you arrive on the highway, you have to make a mini U-turn to continue towards Palermo. The measure is valid only for cars.

The problem remains for Messina Nord, and for this we will have to wait for the reopening of the Telegrafo tunnel (closed since 24 December due to a fire), scheduled for 12 January.
