A very good person, a seemingly normal family, an end that no one expected. Bagheria is shocked by what happened in a house on Corso Butera, one of the two main axes of the historic city centre. A teacher killed, Teresa Spanò, a primary school teacher in Casteldaccia, 55 years old. Her daughter arrested for voluntary homicide, herself, seventeen years old, confesses guilty in the face of the pressure of questions, after having tried to credit the thesis of her mother’s suicide. A story that leaves the city appalled, especially that slice of the city that knew the teacher Teresa.
“I knew her and I know the girl, the whole family in fact – says Nino Carollo, who runs a bakery near the scene of the crime -. Teacher Teresa was a very good person, I’ve known her since I was born, we are from the same area. All very good people, until a few days ago we were talking about this and that. Even the girl seemed okay. Did they fight? I’ve never heard of them.”
«She was my brother’s customer, I saw her in the shop. A soft-spoken, but cheerful person, we are all shocked. We all know each other in her neighborhood, I’ve always seen her. A decent person, our family is in shock, as is the rest of the area
«She was my brother’s customer, I saw her in the shop. A soft-spoken but cheerful person, we are all shocked. We all know each other in her neighborhood, I’ve always seen her. A decent person, our family is upset, like the rest of the area», says Mariella Carollo.
Tiziana Violante is also shocked: «We are all truly in shock, in Bagheria there are no homicides, if not rare – says the girl -. It is absurd to think of a 17-year-old girl killing her mother, I too am young and I cannot believe such a thing ».
Even the mayor of Bagheria, Filippo Tripoli, expressed the city’s dismay. «I express the condolences – he said – of the whole community. What happened in Bagheria is a drama. There’s a dead woman, but there’s also a 17-year-old girl who, if she does something like that, only shows a lot of discomfort. Now we have to say our last goodbyes to a teacher known and appreciated in the village also for her social activities and in the parish, but we have to stay close to the girl. Without expressing summary judgments or pointing the finger at her ».
