The Italian Air Force aerobatic team, the Frecce Tricolori, performed a spectacular flight over the city of Palermo.
#Palermo
The theme of the centenary of the Italian Air Force is “In Flight Towards the Future.” With this spirit, the Frecce Tricolori (Italian acrobatic demonstration team) filled the sky of Palermo with green, white, and red this morning. The aircraft of the aerobatic patrol arrived in Palermo at around 10:30 AM, performing a double flyover through the heart of the city. One flyover went along the Via Libertà-Via Ruggero Settimo-Piazza Massimo-Via Maqueda-Quattro Canti axis, while the other went from Porta Nuova to the Foro Italico. This impressive display delighted both the people of Palermo and the tourists who are currently crowding the city, especially its historic center and the Arab-Norman itinerary.
The Frecce Tricolori had taken off from Comiso Airport, heading to Pantelleria, where their performance is scheduled between 2 PM and 4 PM. Leading the formation of the national acrobatic team is a Sicilian: 37-year-old Pierluigi Raspa, an Air Force major from Roccalumera.
This show is part of the celebrations for the centenary of the Italian Air Force and it is not the first event in Palermo. Until July 30th, the Modern Art Gallery will be hosting a traveling exhibition on the history, capabilities, and traditions of the Air Force in its first 100 years, through a dedicated iconographic journey. The aim is to bring the Air Force, with its history and values, closer to the territory and its citizens.
