Another ultra-luxury yacht has been spotted in the Sicilian seas, this time in Palermo. The yacht Al Lusail, owned by the Qatari royal family and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, was spotted in the harbor. The vessel, moored just a few hundred meters from the shore, is 124 meters long and has an estimated value of 500 million euros. The Emir loves to come to Sicily and often shows up with his extensive entourage in the summer.
Al Lusail is “among the most highly regarded yachts in the world. Built at the German shipyard Lürssen, it was launched in February 2017 and can accommodate 36 people onboard.” The Al Thani family, who have owned Paris Saint-Germain since 2011 through Qatar Sports Investment, founded Al Jazeera in 1996, the leading Arabic-language television network with highly regarded English-language channels. The Al Thani family was also the main sponsor of the 2022 World Cup, held in Qatar and won by Leo Messi’s Argentina in the final against France.
Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has been the Emir of Qatar since 2013 and is a cousin of Mansur bin-Zayed, the Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and owner of Manchester City and the Holding that heads Palermo. It is estimated that the Al Thani family has a fortune ranging from 100 to 200 billion dollars.
