The City of Taormina bends the resistance of the Ionica in the Italian Cup

A gem from Petrullo was enough for the City of Taormina to beat the Jonica 1-0 and reach the second round of the Italian Cup of Excellence. The goal decided a vibrant and intense match, with Cirnigliaro protagonist, in the second half, of a series of decisive interventions.

First half: Balanced start with great intensity and a not very fluid maneuver on both sides. Ten minutes of study, then the City of Taormina takes the field and in the 13th minute takes the lead: Petrullo collects a short defensive rebound on Quintoni’s cross and draws a perfect parable from outside the area that bags under the intersection. An amazing 2001 goal by Lu Vito and a game that changes, with the biancazzurri who, on the wings of enthusiasm, press in search of doubling. Saccullo, shortly after 20 ‘, has a double opportunity: first he receives from Famà, but his paw is closed for a corner by Aquino; then exalts Romano with a left-handed from 20 meters that the goalkeeper of the Jonica deflects with the tips of his fingers. Rhythms now lower, a frenetic city of Taormina often misses the last step and the Santateresini show up in the 37th minute with a cut ball put in the middle by Giorgetti on which Lanza arrives a moment late. Second half: The City of Taormina suffered a great chance to double in the 3 ‘of the second half, but Famà did not find the moment to correct Urso’s assist on the net. La Jonica approaches well at the second half, but faces a Cirnigliaro in a state of grace: between 50 ‘and 57’ the home goalkeeper is first on the right from the edge of Giuseppe Savoca, then nails the header of Lucero on a corner action and finally responds to the conclusion on Esposito’s near post. Around the hour of play Gallardo also tries, Cirnigliaro is there and then Esposito shoots high in precarious balance. Gallardo is the extra man of the Jonica at this moment of the race, but in the 70th minute he is stopped only by the crossbar. Lu Vito sends Ginagò to Famà, then Lo Re makes his debut in Excellence taking over from Caltabiano in the 76th minute. Little is played, the referee flies over a header from Lucero a Sardo (double Solomonic yellow card) and a suspicious touch of Strano’s hand. Cirnigliaro is also on the diagonal of Ortiz and in a final of great suffering, with Mannino, Patanè and 2004 Viscuso on the field, the City of Taormina holds up to the advances of the Ionian and will no longer suffer, with the guests who also close in ten for the expulsion of Aquino.
