PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – The Archbishop of Palermo Monsignor Corrado Lorefice visited the “Paolo Giaccone” University Hospital in Palermo.

Monsignor Lorefice went to the departments of Plastic Surgery, Intensive Care, Vascular Surgery, Oncology, Cancer Surgery, Hematology and then moved to the Maternal and Child Area visiting the Gynecology and Obstetrics, the UTIN (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and the Pediatric surgery.
Here Monsignor Lorefice donated Easter eggs to the little patients.
During the visit, there is also a moment of particular prayer with the blessing of the Madonna whose statue is located within the avenues of the Policlinico.
«It is a reason of gratitude for me – the Archbishop underlined – to be able to be here today.
I felt the joy of meeting those who are the recipients of essential treatments every day, treatments which, as I was able to find, do not stop only at the strictly medical aspect, but are often also accompanied by human gazes, gestures of proximity and attention to fragility; fragility that is not only linked to the disease but is also more intimate.
I visited particular departments: a path that embraces the entire span of life and that demonstrates how much we are surrounded by human greatness, a greatness that also knows suffering.
Mine was an encounter as always in the name of the Lord because, while always respecting different religious identities, we need to know that God is not distant or indifferent to our life, but always remains involved: he is Emmanuel, the ‘ God with Noì “.
The Archbishop was welcomed – representing the Rector of the University of Palermo Massimo Midiri and the Extraordinary Commissioner of the AOUP Alessandro Caltagirone – by the President of the School of Medicine and Surgery Professor Marcello Ciaccio; also present were the Administrative Director of the Santo Naselli Polyclinic, the Health Director Gaetano Cimò and the Medical Director of the Unit Dr.
Luigi Aprea together with the Directors of the DAI (Integrated Departments) Professor Adriana Cordova (DAI Chirurgico), Professor Antonino Giarratano (DAI Emergency Urgency), Professor Giulia Letizia (DAI Rehabilitation, Fragility and Continuity of Care) and Professor Francesco Vitale (DAI Oncology and Public Health).

The physical and spiritual closeness to our patients is a precious comfort and at the same time it is also a reason of encouragement for all of us who are committed every day to guaranteeing the proper functioning of processes that are often decisive for the well-being of the people who turn to us to be treated “.
