On Friday Palermo debut for the international soprano Pretty Yende

A week full of musical events not to be missed with the Teatro Massimo in Palermo. From Wednesday 7 to Sunday 11 July, concerts and operas, live and in streaming, and Friday 9 July, with Traviata, the long-awaited Palermo debut of an international diva such as the South African soprano Pretty Yende.

On Wednesday 7 July, the concert directed by Omer Meir Wellber that last Sunday inaugurated the summer season of the Massimo Theater at the Verdura Theater will be re-proposed in free streaming on www.teatromassimo.it from 8.00 and all day. For those who have lost them, it will be possible to recover the two musical masterpieces of the twentieth century: the Concerto for piano and orchestra n. 2 by Sergej Rachmaninov, soloist the young Romanian pianist Daniel Ciobanu who with great personality and technical mastery enchanted the audience at the Verdura Theater, and the Cantata Aleksandr Nevskij that Sergej Prokofiev drew from the incidental music for the film of the same name by Sergej Ejzenstejn. The performance, accompanied by the scenes from the film, involved the mezzo-soprano Natalia Gavrilan and the Teatro Massimo Chorus, directed by Ciro Visco, together with the Orchestra.

On Friday 9 and Saturday 10 July, at 8.00 pm, in the atrium of Palazzo Sant’Elia, the concert of the Cantoria, the Children’s Choir and the Rainbow Choir, directed by Salvatore Punturo, is scheduled, with a program that ranges fromAve Verum Corpus by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, performed by Children’s Choir and Rainbow Choir, at Praise the Virgin Mary from the Quattro Canti Sacri by Giuseppe Verdi performed by the Cantoria, up to jazz pieces (Bob Chilcott e Joyful, Joyful from the movie soundtrack Sister Act) and compositions written specifically for the young voices of the Teatro Massimo. Piano Giuseppe Ricotta, double bass Davide Femminino, Sergio Calì drums. Tickets: full € 10.00 concert only (available online and at the ticket office of Palazzo Sant’Elia); Reduced € 8.00 for the visit of Palazzo Sant’Elia and the Exhibitions Heroes – Bowie by Sukita – Crossing Africa – Oriri, for those who buy the concert ticket at the same time.

On Friday 9 and Sunday 11, at 9.15 pm, the opera returns to the Verdura Theater with “Traviata“By Giuseppe Verdi in semi-stage form and the expected Palermo debut of an international diva such as the South African soprano, of Zulu origins, Pretty Yende who in the role of Violet it has established itself on the main international stages. And come back as Germont the baritone Simone Piazzola, who had already left his mark in this role at the Teatro Massimo, while David Astorga will be Alfredo. Conducting the orchestra is the young conductor Michele Spotti whom the public has already appreciated in Palermo, in Stabat mater by Rossini broadcast in streaming a few months ago. There mise en espace is by Ludovico Rajata, the sumptuous costumes, signed by Francesco Zito, are those of the staging with which the Teatro Massimo went on tour with great success in Japan in 2017. The lights are by Giuseppe Di Iorio, the choreography by Carmen Marcuccio.
