Syracuse, Green Europe: “No valid petrochemical proposal to be included in the Pnrr”

“There are no ambitious projects that could be included in the text of the NRP for subsequent EU funding and implementation over the next five and a half years”. This is said by Salvo La Delfa and Giusi Nanè, Co-spokesperson for Europa Verde Siracusa.
“The green proposal that the petrochemical companies have put on the plate – they argue – concerns the collaboration of Sasol and Sonatrach with the Polytechnic of Turin for the feasibility study of a Ccsu (Carbon Capture, Storage and Utilization) plant which was presented as the panacea for all environmental problems, but which, being a research project for the conversion of carbon into another carbon, of gray chemistry, cannot be financed by the NRP funds.
A fundamental role – they insist – must be played by politics and, above all, by those who currently represent the territory at all levels. It is up to them to take serious action in the wake of what Europe asks of us, safeguarding territorial employment by recognizing our petrochemicals status as a complex industrial crisis.
We need to encourage – explain the spokespersons of Europa Verde Syracuse – the circular economy, renewable sources, electrification, green hydrogen, lithium batteries, fuel cells and, again, sustainable mobility, biodiversity, regeneration urban, the reduction of hydrogeological risk, waste of drinking water and land consumption, and much more “.
An important role is assigned to the Zes: “The subsidies for the Special Economic Zones – they add – must be used to attract green investments, to encourage truly eco-sustainable industrial projects.
In this industrial reconversion, in this energy transition – they conclude – it would have been useful to have a research center in our area, which could have acted as a catalyst for the formulation of innovative and sustainable proposals and responses “.
