Swedish Minister Stenergard visits Lampedusa migrant hotspot

The Swedish minister Maria Malmer Stenergard visited Lampedusa with a delegation from Stockholm to learn about the immigration phenomenon. They were welcomed and guided by the prefect of Agrigento, Filippo Romano. The minister and prefect visited the Imbriacola hotspot, which currently only houses one guest after the transfer of 82 migrants. Maria Malmer Stenergard met with the vice-prefect Carmen Cosentino, the head of the Italian Red Cross (the current manager of the center), and the police chief at the hotspot, Vice-Questore Roberto Cilona. The prefect Filippo Romano illustrated the reception procedures. The minister was impressed by the efficiency of the reception system and the transfer to the mainland migrant centers.
