When the greatness of the Florio family, in the Palermitan Belle Epoque, made Sicily the center of Europe
The journey will begin with a reading on the revolutions of the Cultural sites at the Zisawhere a structure was built behind the famous Castello della Zisa to house 23 industrial warehouses for the prestigious Ducrot company, Liberty furniture manufacturer.
Inside, some of the most beautiful liberty furniture in Europe, designed by Ernesto Basile, were made.
The rise of the company is certainly to be connected also by the good relations with the Florio family, personalities who have made Sicily immense both from an artistic point of view but also from an economic point of view.
A few steps away is the Villino Florio all’Olivuzza, a building surrounded by a beautiful garden, among modern buildings.
It was commissioned by the wealthy Florio family to the architect Ernesto Basile (1857-1932) and built between 1899 and 1902.
The Basile in this building, insert original decorative elements, from the Romanesque columns to lively Baroque surfaces to the cylindrical turrets that refer to French castles.
In the 1960s, an arson attack damaged most of the interiors, furnishings, frescoes and some paintings.
Today they are restored and visible
The last stop will be the home of the exceptional architect artist, Villino Ida Basiledesigned and built between 1903 and 1904 and was named after his wife “Ida Negrini di Novara” to whom Basile wanted to dedicate it
