In these days, the investigations concerning the police operation carried out by the Brancaccio police station have concluded, which last February 20 allowed to execute an order of personal precautionary measure against 16 members of a criminal group dedicated to numerous car thefts, their recycling, and extortions.

The group, which operated based in the Sperone district, was found responsible for a large recycling ring of stolen cars, whose chassis data were altered by new stamping, replacing them with those of damaged cars, almost all unusable, purchased for these purposes. The investigative activity ended with the registration in the list of suspects, for the crime of facilitating, of 14 people who had suffered as many extortions, as a result of the theft of their cars, committed with the well-known criminal technique of the so-called “favoreggiamento”.

Investigative findings led to the belief that the conduct of the 14 individuals, seriously omitting in relation to the crimes committed by the extortionists, hindered the ascertainment of the truth and therefore constituted the crime of facilitating. It is important to note that the criminal responsibility of the conduct listed will be defined only after the issuance of a possible final judgment, in compliance with the constitutional principle of the presumption of innocence.
