“Sting” for the violation of anti-covid rules: 25 penalties in Messina

Yesterday evening, the Carabinieri of the Messina Centro Company, supported by the patrols of the Radiomobile Nucleus, intensified checks along the main roads of the Peloritan capital and in particular controls were set up in order to counter the sale of narcotic substances and predatory crimes in general, with particular attention to compliance with anti-covid legislation.

During the services, in implementation of prison orders issued by the competent Judicial Authority, the Carabinieri of the Stations of Villafranca Tirrena, Messina Principale, Camaro, Giostra and Castanea delle Furie they arrested five people. Nicola Mazzeo, 72, will have to atone, under home detention, the penalty of 3 years of imprisonment for slander. Instead, they were translated at the Messina Gazzi prison where they will have to serve their respective sentences: Antonino Bongiovanni, 37, who must atone for a cumulative sentence of 7 years of imprisonment for the accumulation of penalties for various convictions for the crime of theft aggravated; Alessio Mascianà, 41, who was imprisoned for 4 years and 3 months for crimes of aggravated theft and personal injury; Carmelo Calogero, 34, already subjected to probation, who will now have to expiate the 1 year prison sentence for drug dealing in prison; Pushpa Kumar Perera Kuwithansige, a 53-year-old native of SRI LANKA who was sentenced to 11 months in prison for aggravated theft.

Furthermore, in the course of the services, More than 100 people and 50 cars were checked, raising 3 violations to the highway code and the Carabinieri also ascertained violations of the legislation provided for the containment of the spread of the covid-19 virus, with consequent high administrative penalties against 25 people. Finally, two young people were found in possession of modest quantities of marijuana, subjected to seizure for subsequent laboratory analyzes, and for this reason they were reported to the local Prefecture.
