More than 2,300 state-owned maritime concessions to date have been extended to 2033, for the first time through the dedicated portal, but many operators have not yet submitted the request and at the end of the month they risk losing the concession.
It is an invitation to do quickly what the regional councilor for the Territory and Environment, Toto Cordaro, addresses to the managers of activities on the maritime domain, underlining that “for the first time in Sicily the procedures for requesting the extension of concessions have a totally computerized way through the “Portal of the Maritime State Property of the Sicilian Region”. We need to speed up – says the commissioner – because there are still many dealers who, despite having the right to do so, have not yet requested the extension through the portal. Therefore, it is useful to reiterate that, with article 1 of regional law 32 of 16 December 2020, the deadline for submitting applications for extension was set for 28 February next. From that date on, the concessions, for which no request for extension has been submitted, will automatically lapse ».
The establishment of the portal, strongly supported by the Musumeci government, represents one of the most important objectives achieved in terms of reorganizing the maritime domain, that of digitization, transparency and simplification of procedures. A further element of satisfaction is given by the fact that this IT service has been created in house, thanks to internal resources of the administration and without any further economic burden for the regional coffers, and allows the consultation of data relating to the requests presented by the concessionaires, the geolocation of individual concessions, the extrapolation of graphs and reports.
