Siracusa says enough to femicides with a human chain

This morning, over two hundred protesters, including men, women, and many young people, gathered in Siracusa to challenge the strong wind and participate in the “Against Violence…I’m Here” protest. Organized by journalist Mascia Quadarella and Samanta Ponzio, president of the WonderS@mmy association, the protest aimed to break the silence against violence towards women and say “Enough femicides.” The group, endorsed by various professional orders and with the support of around thirty local associations and anti-violence centers, formed a human chain in red and orange, the colors of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The participants then read the names, dates, and locations of the 83 Sicilian femicide victims since 1956 and urged people to remain vigilant and report suspected violence. The event concluded at the Duomo square, where Pucci Piccione, president of the Deputation of the Chapel of Santa Lucia, allowed flowers to be placed inside the Cathedral next to the precious case holding the red shoes of Santa Lucia, considered a victim of femicide.
