Sicily burns: Forest hectares in smoke in Burgio

Eleven fires have broken out in Sicily since this morning. Forestry workers and firefighters are engaged on multiple fronts. The most serious situation is in the Burgio area, in the Ruggeri district, where hectares of forest are being destroyed. Two Canadair planes are operating to contain the blaze. Several fires have also occurred in the Nisseno region: Butera, in the Lago Telai area; Mazzarino, in the Cozzo San Nicola district; San Cono Sottano district; Monte Gibliscemi area; Mussomeli, in the Torretta district. In Enna, fires have been reported in Piazza Armerina, in the Crepe district along the provincial road 12. In Messina, fires have occurred in Furnari and Gaggi. Meanwhile, in Palermo, clean-up operations continue in Montepellegrino, where new outbreaks are emerging along the rocky slope that overlooks the capital city.
